Learning about the Ancient World for over a century!
I started collecting US and world coins at an early age growing up in Hawaii, with help from my dad, United States Air Force Pilot Alden Avery, He brought home rolls of pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters from the bank and allowed me to pick out the Wheaties and silver and rarer date coins and keep them in return for me doing lots of yard work.
Much later, while stationed overseas, also as an officer-aviator in the USAF, I started collecting ancient Greek and Roman coins. I visited numerous archeology sites in Europe and the Middle East. Ancient coins were much cheaper to buy back then. I use a lot of those early finds to help tell the story of ancient nations, leaders, trade routes, deities and symbology.
In 2020, I started the Wasatch Coin and History Club in Heber City Utah. We are very thankful for our participating members and sponsors in helping young and old numismatists and historians discover the past.
Occasionally, I give presentations at other clubs, schools, churches, and the St Louis Ancient Coin Study Group.
